Our work

“A pleasant collaboration from start to finish. Communication was clear, the work was done carefully and everything was finished within the agreed schedule.”

Tim / Enschede / Renovation project

Painting walls and ceilings

An even wall without streaks or lap marks starts with the preparation. We clean the wall, fill small holes, repair minor damage and mask the edges neatly. Then two coats of wall paint go on, or more if the colour changes a lot.

Rolling or spraying? We can roll walls and ceilings, or spray them with emulsion. Spraying is quicker in large, empty rooms, such as in a new-build. During the survey we say what suits your room.

CeilingsMatt wall paintLight always hits a ceiling at an angle. Matt absorbs that light. Anything with a sheen shows every imperfection and every roller mark.
Living rooms and bedroomsMatt wall paintA calm look, and small imperfections in the wall stand out less.
Kitchen, bathroom, hallway and children's roomWashable wall paintStands up to damp, grease and cleaning. Has a little more sheen, so the wall underneath has to be flatter.
Window frames, doors and skirtingSatin finishThe standard inside: crisp, but forgiving of small imperfections in the wood. High gloss is also possible, but we then spend longer on preparation.
  • New plaster

The plaster has to be completely dry first, usually after 1 to 2 weeks. Fresh plaster is absorbent, so we prime it. Without that coat the paint soaks in unevenly and you get dull and shiny patches mixed together. Then two coats of wall paint.

  • A wall that is already painted

We clean the wall, degrease where needed and fill holes and repair damage. Two coats are usually enough. When going from dark to light, or with a strong colour, a third may be needed. We tell you beforehand, not afterwards.

Not sure yet which colour or sheen you want? You don't need to decide before the quote. Let us know before the start week so we have the paint in on time.

New-build home?

Many new-builds are handed over wallpaper-ready. That wall is not smooth enough to paint directly, because paint shows every imperfection. We then make it paint-ready first and paint it afterwards. That way you have one company for both. Good to know: for homes in the Netherlands under 2 years old, VAT is 21%.

Painting window frames, doors and skirting

Gloss work is seen up close, so every millimetre counts. We degrease and sand, fill holes and joints, prime bare wood and apply two coats. Where possible we unscrew the ironmongery instead of masking it. The paint then runs right to the edge, without a ridge.

  • Window frames on the inside.
  • Interior doors and door frames.
  • Skirting boards, including after a new floor.

Gloss feels dry after a few hours, but is only fully hard after 1 to 2 weeks. Close windows and doors carefully for the first few days and don't lean anything against them, otherwise they stick or you leave a mark in the paint.

Exterior painting

Outside, paint has to stand up to rain, sun and frost. How long it stays good depends not on the last coat, but on the wood underneath and on the state of the old paint. That is why exterior work starts with the surface.

We give a 2-year guarantee on opaque exterior paint and 1 year on stain and clear varnish. Exterior painting is possible from about April to September, in dry weather and from about 5 °C. If the weather moves the schedule, you'll hear straight away, with a new date.

  • A maintenance coat

The paint is still sound but dull or damaged here and there. We wash the woodwork, key it, prime the bare patches and apply one coat of opaque paint. This is the maintenance you repeat every few years, and the cheapest way to keep your window frames in good shape.

  • A full rebuild of the paint system

The paint is flaking, cracking or coming loose, or there is wood rot. Then the old layer has to come off, the wood is repaired and we build the paint system up again: primer, undercoat and topcoat. It costs more, but afterwards you start with a clean slate.

Three things we check on your window frames

  • The state of the old coat

Is the paint still firmly attached, or is it flaking and cracking? That decides whether it becomes a maintenance coat or everything has to come off. Painting over a layer that is coming loose makes no sense: the new paint comes off just as fast.

  • The wood underneath

Sills and the bottom corners of a window stay wet the longest. That is where wood rot starts. We probe those spots, so you don't only find out during the work that there is more going on.

  • The joints and sealant

Water rarely gets through the paint. It gets in through an open joint between frame and brickwork, or through sealant that has dried out. Seal that first, then paint.

Not sure which treatment your window frames need? Send a few close-up photos, especially of the sills. That is where you see it first.

What exterior work includes

  • Window frames, casements and doors, on the outside and on the inside of the opening parts. A window that opens is exterior work on two sides.
  • Fascias, bargeboards and other woodwork on the house.
  • Renewing the joints and sealant around the window frames where needed.
  • From stain or clear varnish to opaque paint. The old layer then usually has to come off completely.

Scaffolding or ladder?

Up to about the first floor we usually work from a ladder or a mobile tower. If the work is higher, or we cannot reach it safely otherwise, scaffolding goes up. That is listed separately in the quote, so you can see where the costs are.

Wallpapering

Wallpaper only looks good on a wall that is flat, dry and clean. That is why we start with the wall: old wallpaper off, holes filled, skimmed where needed and primed. Then we hang the paper straight, with the pattern matched across the drops.

  • Stripping old wallpaper and making the wall wallpaper-ready.
  • Non-woven and paper wallpaper, patterned too.
  • Glass-fibre or renovation lining: a smooth, paintable lining. Useful on a wall with lots of small cracks, because the lining holds them together.

Supplying the wallpaper yourself? That is fine. The guarantee then covers the hanging, not the wallpaper itself, such as printing faults or colour differences between rolls. Buy the rolls in one go and check they share the same batch number, otherwise the colour can vary per roll.

Filling and smoothing

Holes from wall plugs, hairline cracks, a damaged corner: paint does not hide them, it makes them more obvious. So we fill them, sand the spots smooth and prime them. A filled patch absorbs differently from the rest of the wall, so without primer you see it through the paint later.

  • Filling holes and small cracks.
  • Skimming a whole wall or ceiling.
  • Making good after a renovation, for example around new window frames or pipes.

Is the wall too uneven, or does it have large cracks? Then filling is not enough and we level it again with plaster.

Before and after

After: the same room with smooth white walls, painted roof beams and a new floor
Before: room under the roof beams with a bare, partly repaired wall and building materials on the floor
Room under the roof beams: from bare wall to smoothly plastered and painted.

Costs

What does painting cost?

The price depends on three things: how many m² of wall, ceiling and woodwork there are, the state of the surface, and how easily we can reach it. A wall that just needs a new colour is a different job from window frames where the old paint has to come off first. Request a quote with photos and you'll have a price indication within 1 working day. We set the fixed price after a free survey.

This is always included

  • Masking and covering
  • Cleaning, sanding and filling small holes
  • Primer where needed
  • Paint and gloss
  • Final clean
  • Removal of our waste

Listed separately in the quote: scaffolding if we cannot otherwise reach safely, and repairs to wood rot or the surface. What we see during the survey is in the price. If more comes to light during the work, we show you first.

How much VAT?

For homes in the Netherlands: if your home is more than 2 years old you pay 9% VAT on the painting, including preparation and the paint we supply. For wallpapering, 9% applies to the work and the paste and 21% to the wallpaper itself. New timber in a window frame also falls under 21% and is listed separately in the quote. For a new-build under 2 years old and for commercial property it is 21%. For projects outside the Netherlands we go through the VAT with you beforehand.

How it works

From your enquiry to handover

  1. You request a quote

You fill in the quote form, with photos of the rooms or window frames if you have them.

  2. A price indication within 1 working day

By email, WhatsApp or phone, whichever you prefer.

  3. Free survey and advice

Does the indication suit you? Then we'll come round. We look at the surface, measure up and discuss which paint, which sheen and which order of work suit your home.

  4. Quote with a fixed price

Within 1 working day of the survey, with duration and starting week. Once you agree, we set the start and completion dates down in writing.

  5. Preparing and painting

Masking and covering, cleaning, sanding, filling and priming. That is what makes the difference between a good job and a crisp one. Then two coats, opaque and even. We work room by room, so you can keep using the rest of your home.

  6. Handover together

We walk through the work in daylight, because that is where you see streaks and lap marks. Snags go into a handover report and we put them right.

Drying time

Wall paint is dry enough for the next coat after a few hours, so a room can often be done in a day. Gloss needs more time: it feels dry after a few hours, but is only fully hard after 1 to 2 weeks. Keep a window open during that time and don't lean anything against fresh gloss.

Plaster first?

Does the wall need smoothing or repairing first? We do that ourselves too. One company is then responsible for the end result, and there is no argument between plasterer and painter about who caused what.

What you arrange, what we do

What you arrange

  • Clear the room as much as you can. Large furniture can stay in the middle of the room and we'll cover it.
  • Take paintings, lamps, curtains and shelves off the walls.
  • Clear the window sills if we are doing the window frames.
  • Outside: make sure we can get to the facade freely, with no plants, cars or garden furniture in front of it.
  • Let us know your colours before the start week so we have the paint in on time.
  • Make sure there is power and water.

Can't manage something? Let us know beforehand and we'll include it in the quote.

What we do

  • Masking and covering, including furniture that stays
  • Cleaning, sanding and filling
  • Priming where needed
  • The painting or wallpapering itself
  • Advice on which paint and sheen suit the room, and on the order of the work
  • Final clean and taking our waste away

Finish

How even is even?

  • How we assess it

Painting is handwork. For us, good means an even colour without streaks or lap marks when you look from about two metres away, in daylight or ordinary lighting. That is how our guarantee terms put it too. At handover we walk through the work together and record snags in a handover report.

  • Paint does not make a wall flatter

Raking light, such as low sun through a large window or spotlights close to the wall, shows every imperfection in the surface. Even through a fresh coat of paint. That is why we look at the wall itself during the survey. If it is not flat enough for what you want, we say so beforehand and decide together whether filling or plastering is needed.

  • Guarantee

We give a 4-year guarantee on interior painting: the paint will not flake, come loose or blister. Outside it is 2 years on opaque paint and 1 year on stain or clear varnish. On wallpaper we give 1 year. If you report something, we respond within 2 working days.

Renovating more than one room?

Painting is almost the finishing touch, but not the last thing that happens. The order decides how much you have to touch up later. This is how we usually plan it.

  • Plastering and repairs first. The plaster then has to dry for 1 to 2 weeks before paint can go on.
  • Then the ceilings, then the walls. Top to bottom, so splashes land on what still has to be painted.
  • Then the gloss work. Gloss needs a dust-free room, so not on a day when sanding is still going on.
  • The floor goes in only once the painting is finished. Otherwise it ends up under masking tape and splashes.
  • Skirting last, because only with the floor in do you know where it goes and how high.

Is it different in your case, for example because the floor is already down or the kitchen is still to come? Mention it during the survey and we'll adjust the order and schedule to suit.

Frequently asked questions

What people ask us

What does painting cost per m²?

That depends on how much wall, ceiling and woodwork there is, the state of the surface and how easily we can reach it. Request a quote with a few photos and you have a price indication within 1 working day. You get a fixed price after a free survey at your home.

Go to the quote form
How much VAT do I pay on painting?

For homes in the Netherlands: if your home is more than 2 years old you pay 9% VAT on the painting, including preparation and the paint we supply. For wallpapering the work is 9%, but the wallpaper itself is 21%. New timber in a window frame and sealing work on the facade are also 21%, listed separately in the quote. For a new-build under 2 years old and for commercial property it is 21% on the whole job. For projects outside the Netherlands we go through the VAT with you beforehand.

Do you buy the paint, or do I have to?

We supply the paint, it is included in the price. For homes in the Netherlands that saves VAT too: paint we supply is part of the work and falls under 9%, paint you buy in a shop is 21%. If you prefer a particular brand or colour, mention it during the survey and we take it into account.

Matt, satin or high gloss: which do I choose?

On ceilings and in living rooms and bedrooms matt is the calmest: it absorbs light and shows imperfections least. In a kitchen, bathroom, hallway or children's room you choose washable wall paint. It stands up to cleaning but has a little more sheen. On window frames and doors satin is the standard. High gloss looks more classic and crisper, but shows every imperfection in the wood, so we spend longer preparing for it. During the survey we say what suits your room.

Can I stay at home while you paint?

Yes, usually. Inside we paint with water-based paint, which smells very little. We work room by room, so you can use the rest of your home as normal. You cannot use the room we are working in that day. Open a window after the gloss work and the smell soon goes.

How long will you be working?

That is in the quote, together with the starting week. Once you agree, we set the start and completion dates down in writing. For exterior work the schedule depends on the weather.

When can you paint outside?

From about April to September. It has to be dry, at least 5 degrees and not too humid, otherwise the paint does not adhere well. Early in the morning the wood is often still wet with dew, so we do not start outside too early. If it rains, we postpone and you hear it straight away.

How often does exterior paintwork need redoing?

The trade reckons on about 4 to 7 years. Opaque paint lasts longer than stain or clear varnish, and light colours longer than dark ones. The side that gets the sun wears fastest, so it is often due sooner than the north side. Check each spring whether paint is flaking anywhere, so it stays a matter of touching up rather than redoing everything.

What if there is wood rot in my window frames?

Then it has to be repaired first, otherwise it comes back under the new paint. We repair small, superficial patches ourselves. If it goes deeper or a whole section is affected, it is joinery work and we discuss what needs doing. What we see during the survey is in the quote. If we find more during the work, once the old paint is off, we show you first and agree together what happens.

Can you paint uPVC or aluminium window frames?

Often, yes, but it needs its own preparation and an adhesion primer, and not every uPVC is suitable. Send a few close-up photos with your request and we will tell you whether it works for your frames and what it means for the price.

Do I get a guarantee on painting?

Yes. We give a 4-year guarantee on interior painting, 2 years on opaque exterior painting and 1 year on stain, clear varnish and wallpaper. If you report something, we respond within 2 working days. If it falls under the guarantee, we put it right free of charge.
