Paint-ready or wallpaper-ready plaster

A flat, smooth wall is the basis of every finish. What you choose depends on what goes on it afterwards.

  • Paint-ready

For paint or emulsion. The smoothest finish. Paint shows every imperfection, so we finish the wall extra finely.

  • Wallpaper-ready

For wallpaper. Flat and closed, finished slightly less finely, because the wallpaper hides the last small imperfections. Not intended to be painted directly.

Not sure? Choose paint-ready. That keeps every option open for later.

Also possible

  • Thin-coat plaster: a thin layer over a flat surface such as concrete or gypsum blocks.
  • Finishing plasterboard: filling and taping the joints and skimming the whole board flat.

New-build home?

Was your home handed over wallpaper-ready and do you want to paint it? Then we make the walls paint-ready. New-build walls often still hold construction moisture. We assess that during the survey.

Plastering ceilings

A ceiling needs a different approach from a wall. Light running along a ceiling shows up more. Smooth plaster is the crispest choice. A sprayed texture is more forgiving and quicker to finish. During the survey we'll tell you what works best in your room.

  • Smoothly plastered ceiling, handed over paint-ready.
  • Sprayed textured coating: a fine sprayed grain, also over an existing ceiling.
  • Concealing joints and board edges in plasterboard ceilings.

Sprayed texture or sprayed paint? A sprayed texture is plasterwork: it gives the ceiling a fine grain. Spray painting is paint, on a ceiling that is already smooth. Two different jobs, and we list them separately in the quote.

Decorative and textured plaster

Not every wall has to be mirror-smooth. A textured finish gives a room character and hides small imperfections in the surface. The grain determines the effect: fine looks understated, coarser is more pronounced.

  • Decorative plaster

The umbrella term for decorative top coats on walls, ceilings and facades. It covers everything that gives a wall texture or character instead of a smooth finish.

  • Spachtelputz

One type of decorative plaster: a granular layer with a fixed grain size, mainly on interior walls and ceilings. The grain runs from fine to coarse.

Not sure which grain suits your room? Mention it during the survey and we will go through it together.

Exterior rendering

A rendered facade instantly gives a house a calmer, crisper look. Outside, the demands differ from inside: the build-up has to cope with weather and frost, and the junctions with window frames, roof edge and plinth decide whether it stays watertight.

  • Rendering facades, in the colour you choose.
  • Junctions with window frames, roof edge and plinth.
  • Repairing existing facade render.

On exterior rendering without insulation we give a 3-year guarantee. Exterior work depends on the weather. If the schedule shifts, you'll hear straight away, with a new date. If your facade is scaffolded anyway, insulating is only a small extra step.

Repair and renovation

A new kitchen, different windows, a knock-through or wallpaper just stripped off: afterwards the wall is often no longer what it was. We repair cracks, holes and damaged patches. If the damage is extensive or the wall too uneven, we level it again. The new work blends in with what is already there, so you won't see where old meets new.

  • Cracks in a wall or ceiling: cutting them out, reinforcing them and filling them.
  • Closing holes and chases, for example after a kitchen, tiling, electrical work or pipework.
  • Reveals and joints around new window frames and knock-throughs.
  • A bare or damaged wall after the wallpaper has come off.
  • Making an old, uneven wall paint-ready again.

Is the damage caused by damp or a leak? Then the cause has to be dealt with first, otherwise it will come back.

Costs

What does plastering cost?

The price depends on the finish, the state of the wall and the number of corners and reveals. Making a flat wall paint-ready is a different job from an old wall that first has to be made straight again. That is why we ask you for photos and a few details, which you can enter in a few short steps in the quote form.

How you get to your price

  1. Send photos

Fill in the quote form and add photos. You'll have a price indication within 1 working day.

  2. Site survey

Does the indication match your expectations? Then, by arrangement, we'll visit free of charge and without obligation to measure everything up.

  3. Quote with a fixed price

Within 1 working day after the survey you have the quote, with a fixed price, duration and starting week.

This is always included

  • Priming
  • Materials such as gypsum plaster and corner beads
  • Sanding and finishing
  • Covering and masking where needed
  • Final clean
  • Removal of our waste

How much VAT?

For homes in the Netherlands: if your home is more than 2 years old you pay 9% VAT on the whole job, so labour, preparation and materials. For a new-build under 2 years old and for commercial property it is 21%. For projects outside the Netherlands we go through the VAT with you beforehand.

Finish

How smooth is smooth?

  • How we assess it

Plastering is handwork. For us, paint-ready means smooth and flat when you look at the wall from about two metres away, in daylight or ordinary lighting. That is how our guarantee terms put it too. At handover we walk through the work together and record snags in a handover report.

  • Light running along the wall

Raking light shows every wall as it is, even a crisply plastered one. Think of low sun through a large window, spotlights close to the wall or an LED strip along it. You then see imperfections that do not stand out in ordinary light. We take that into account. During the survey we decide together which level of finish we hand over.

  • Shrinkage cracks

Very fine shrinkage cracks up to 0.2 mm can appear while the plaster dries. They disappear under the paint and do not count as a defect. If plaster comes loose within 5 years, or the plaster layer itself cracks, we put it right free of charge where the guarantee applies.

How it works

From the first wall to handover

  1. Preparation

Masking and preparing the surface: degreasing, priming, filling cracks and fixing corner beads.

  2. Plastering

Applying, levelling and finishing to the finish you have chosen. The same dedicated crew, from the first wall to the last.

  3. Drying and handover

Plaster has to dry before paint can go on. We tell you how long that takes and walk through the work together. Snags go into the handover report and we put them right.

Drying time

Plaster takes 1 to 2 weeks to dry, depending on the thickness of the coat. Keep the room ventilated during that time and don't turn the heating up to speed it along. Only when it is completely dry can the paint go on. Prime it first, otherwise the plaster soaks up the paint.

What comes next

Once it has dried, the paint can go on. We do that ourselves as well. One company is then responsible for the end result, and you do not have to wait for another tradesman.

What you arrange

  • Clear the room as much as you can.
  • Clear the walls: take down paintings, lights and shelves, unscrew sockets and switches, and remove radiators where possible.
  • Remove old wallpaper.
  • Put protective floor covering down.
  • Make sure there is power and water.

Can't manage something? Let us know beforehand and we'll include it in the quote.

What we do

How much VAT do I pay on plastering?

For homes in the Netherlands: if your home is more than 2 years old you pay 9% VAT on the whole job, so labour, preparation and materials. For a new-build under 2 years old and for commercial property it is 21% on the whole job. If we also do other work, tiling or a new wall for instance, that is listed separately in the quote, because 21% applies to it. For projects outside the Netherlands we go through the VAT with you beforehand.

How long does plaster have to dry?

Allow 1 to 2 weeks, depending on the thickness of the coat. In winter or in a poorly ventilated room it takes longer. Keep the room ventilated and don't turn the heating up to speed it along. At handover we'll tell you when you can carry on.

What do I need to prepare myself?

Clear the room as much as you can. Take paintings, lights and shelves off the walls and unscrew sockets and switches. Take the radiators off if you can and remove old wallpaper. Put protective floor covering down and make sure there is power and water. If you can't manage something, we'll do it by arrangement. Just tell us beforehand so it is included in the quote.

How long will you be working?

That is in the quote, together with the starting week. Once you agree, we set down the start and completion dates in writing. For facade and exterior work the completion date is subject to the weather.

Do I get a guarantee on plastering?

Yes. We give a 5-year guarantee on interior plastering and facade insulation, and 3 years on exterior rendering without insulation. If you report something, we respond within 2 working days. If it falls under the guarantee, we put it right free of charge.
